Microsoft Authenticator

Modified on Mon, 16 Sep, 2024 at 3:59 PM

Microsoft Authenticator serves the same purpose as VIP Symantec - They're multi-factor authentication apps.

SCCU will be moving to Microsoft Authenticator in the near future. However, VIP Symantec is forcing us to move earlier than expected.

NOTE: For now, only staff having issues with VIP will be moved to Microsoft Authenticator, however, both will still need to be used.

  • VIP to sign into Remote Desktop
  • Microsoft Authenticator to sign into Microsoft Apps (My Applications, Outlook, Excel, web apps...)

Downloading Microsoft Authenticator

Please open your App/Play Store and download the app.

Adding an account

1- Click on Add Work or School Account

2- Click on Sign in

3- Enter your work email address + password

4- It'll ask you to finish setting up on a browser > Click on Open Browser

4- Enter your work email address + password again

5- Accept the VIP push notification so it knows you're really you

Working with Microsoft Authenticator

Let's suppose you're trying to sign into My Applications, or Outlook on the web. Your push notification will come through this app rather than VIP.

1- A two-digit code will be shown on the computer screen

2- You must input the two-digit code shown on the desktop into MS Authenticator App and immediately confirm with your phone's PIN/Password/Fingerprint/Face.
